Post Election Newsletter
Friends,
Like everyone, we are recovering from the election results that did not go our way. We always had a lot of work to do in our state, no matter the outcome of any of the races. Now that the election is over, it’s time to get to work. We are here, we are resolved, and we are working on building a coalition of fierce Rainbow Parents and allies across the state.
When we thought of starting this organization, our vision was to get more loved ones of queer kids involved in advocacy at the state legislature. The campaigns were only a warm up–now the preparation for the real work of Rainbow Parents begins! The newsletter will be on hiatus for a few weeks, while we shift from campaign mode to getting ready for the session. If you are interested in getting involved in the work as a Rainbow Parent advocate, please click on this link and let us know about the sorts of activities you are interested in doing.
We will need people to do all sorts of things, from learning about how the legislature works, to organizing others to call and email their senators, to showing up at the capitol to watch debate (and lots more).

Action Steps
For now: Rest, grieve, love your babies, but don’t give up on making Nebraska the inclusive place we know it can be!

Queer Joy
On Tuesday night, Delaware state senator, Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender person elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. You can watch her whole acceptance speech here, but she said, in part, “I am so proud that on Tuesday night, Delaware sent the message to our nation that our democracy is and can be big enough for all of us. I didn't run to be a spokesperson for a movement. I ran to be a voice for Delawareans." Learn more about this amazing trans woman from CNN.
As Martin Luther King, Jr., reminded us, “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Even with the disappointing election results, we will keep fighting to bend the arc toward justice for queer kids in Nebraska. Please remember to let us know how you want to join us.
