Who We Are & What We Do
Welcome to Rainbow Parents of Nebraska, a parent-formed organization that advocates for LGBTQIA+ youth and lobbies for inclusive legislation in our state.

Mission
To educate Nebraska parents of Queer kids about policies and political activity in our state that will impact Queer youth, to encourage political involvement and advocacy on behalf of Queer youth, and to support candidates and office holders who protect Queer kids’ access to the same quality of life that all Nebraska kids deserve.

Vision
Our vision is a Nebraska where LGBTQ+ youth feel empowered, celebrated, and embraced for who they are. We strive to build a community where all young individuals can live authentically and express their true selves without fear of discrimination or prejudice.

Our
Story
We are parents from all over Nebraska who connected initially because we all have kids who are transgender or nonbinary and were scared about anti-trans bills that were introduced in the 2023 legislative session.
We started organically, with 10 moms who met each other one by one and we began communicating about issues related to anti-trans legislation via a group text.
Over the next several months, we never stopped communicating and began to take action.
During the 2024 Nebraska Legislative Session, the anti-trans bill 575 was defeated through a concerted effort between senators, lobbyists and our group of parents.
In the summer of 2024, Senator Machaela Cavanaugh publicly thanked the “Rainbow Moms” at an event, which led to other LGBTQ+ advocacy groups making inquiries and wanting to work with us.

Motivated by the interest of others in working with us, and inspired by meeting Virginia Senator Danica Roem, we decided to organize and help others learn how to advocate for LGBTQ+ youth in the political arena.
